Punjab Labour and Human Resources Minister Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi has said that more than Rs 1.18 billion were being spent on various projects pertaining to industrial workers welfare and health care in the province.

Talking to Business Recorder here on Monday, the minister said that special attention had been focused on provision of ultra modern health facilities to the industrial workers and their dependants in the province.

Syed Akhtar Rizvi said that Rs 820 million were also being spent under the Workers Welfare Board on the construction of schools and social security hospitals in different parts of Punjab.

He said the development work of these projects was at different stages and it is expected that most of the projects would be accomplished during the next six months.

Syed Akhtar disclosed that labour colonies were being constructed in Rahim Yar Khan, Sunder, Mian Channu and Lahore, adding that the construction work of Rahim Yar Khan labour colony had almost been completed.

The Provincial Labour Minister said that another labour colony was being established on Sialkot-Sambrial road for overcoming the accommodation problems being faced by the industrial workers of Sialkot.

The proposed colony consisting 1000 flats would be developed on 25 acres of land, he added.

The minister said the government was committed to resolve the accommodation, health and education problems being faced by the industrial workers on top priority basis.

The labour complexes adjacent to industrial estates would be constructed in major industrial cities of Punjab. Each labour complex would consist of a community and commercial centre, residential colony, dispensary, vocational training centre and school for children of industrial workers, he added.

Besides, work on the establishment of two English medium schools, community centre and mini hospital has been initiated in the area, he revealed.

Syed Akhtar Rizvi said that the construction work on an ultra modern 100-bed hospital was in full swing in Sialkot, with the facility of cardiology, gynecology and haemo-dialysis.

The hospital would be completed at a cost of Rs 120 million, besides Rs 150 million would be spent in equipping the hospital with latest medical machinery, he disclosed.

Meanwhile, speaking as chief guest at stone-laying ceremony of Boys Degree College here, the minister said it was mandatory for the whole team to work relevantly to achieve goals.

He said the government was spending huge amount for the promotion of education. Various drastic measures had already been taken in Punjab.

He urged upon parents to provide an opportunity of getting education to their children, both daughters and sons, to cope with the new challenges and requirements of the globe.

He stressed the need of equipping students with the skills and competence enabling them to win the struggles of life without any hindrance.

Syed Akhtar Rizvi also stressed upon teachers to fulfil their duties honestly and special attention should be focused on character building of students.

The minister revealed that two degree colleges, separately for boys and girls, were being constructed in Chawinda while tehsil Pasrur would have two higher secondary schools for boys and girls.

Sajila Ansar Bajwa, MPA, Shazia Sethi and tehsil Nazim Pasrur Choudary Maqsood Ahmad Sulehria also spoke on the occasion.

Double story building of the Degree College would be completed at a cost of Rs 30 million in eight months' stipulated time.
